Two significant names are pushing for returns in Round 3, with Warriors co-captain Mitch Barnett and Titans playmaker Jayden Campbell both named in their clubs' extended squads after lengthy injury stints.
Barnett's ACL Comeback
Barnett tore his ACL last June — an injury that would have ended most players' seasons and lingered into the following year. But the rugged forward has defied the typical recovery timeline and has been named in the Warriors' extended squad for Saturday's clash against Newcastle.
His return couldn't come at a better time. The Warriors are sitting second on the ladder with two wins from two and a +58 points differential. Adding their co-captain's leadership and toughness to an already confident pack could be the difference in what shapes as a genuine top-four battle.
"Mitch has been incredible through his rehab. His attitude has been first class and he's been leading from the front even when he couldn't be on the field." — Warriors coaching staff
It's worth noting that Barnett was granted an early release from his Warriors contract for personal reasons and will return to Australia at season's end. That makes every game in 2026 count — expect a motivated performance if he takes the field.
Campbell Returns for the Titans
Jayden Campbell is set to complete his own comeback from a hamstring injury, named on the Titans' six-man bench with the possibility of moving into the starting side closer to kickoff. His return is a major boost for new coach Josh Hannay, who has been looking for more creativity in the halves.
The Titans are winless after two rounds and desperately need a spark. Campbell's running game and ability to create something from nothing could be exactly what Gold Coast needs as they head to Townsville to take on the Cowboys on Sunday.
Also Returning
Dragons hooker Jacob Liddle is also set to return from injury, while veteran Raiders prop Josh Papalii is on track to reclaim his starting spot after passing concussion protocols following last week's absence against the Warriors.
